Marine Highway Status

The Tenn-Tom Waterway has marine highway status, serving as an extension of the surface transportation system. The M-65 corridor will help mitigate the anticipated increases in freight and hazardous materials movements along the I-65 Corridor from Southern Alabama northward.

The M-65 Marine Highway Corridor includes:

  • Mobile, Tombigbee, and Black Warrior Rivers from the Port of Mobile to the Port of Birmingham
  • Mobile River
  • Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway
  • Tennessee River via the Ohio River in Paducah, KY to the Mississippi River
  • All commercial navigation channels, ports, and harbors in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee

The M65 Corridor connects to the M-10 corridor in Mobile and the M-55 Corridor in Cairo, IL.
